Bolton Adhesives Joins the DIY "Make it Zero" Initiative
At Bolton, sustainability is central to our business approach, which is why we are proud to support the “Make it Zero” initiative.
The European DIY Retail Association (EDRA) and the Global Home Improvement Network (GHIN) launched this initiative during the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Summit in Rome in June 2024. It focuses on addressing Scope 3 emissions within the DIY retail sector. This is a crucial step toward a lower-carbon future.
A key focus of the initiative is the development of consistent methodologies for collecting and measuring emissions data, ensuring that all members work with reliable and comparable figures. Equally important is the exchange of best practices - because progress is always stronger when made together. By fostering collaboration among industry members and across supply chains, the initiative aims to accelerate the reduction of emissions, ensuring a more sustainable future for the entire sector. While Bolton Adhesives is currently not involved in developing these methodologies or platforms, we fully support the initiative’s goals and will actively participate in data exchange once a platform is established. We will however actively participate in the best practice sharing and communication of our decarbonization ambitions, contributing valuable insights to the collective effort.
So, why are Scope 3 emissions such a critical challenge?
Scope 3 emissions refer to indirect emissions that occur throughout an organization’s value chain, from suppliers to end consumers. Unlike Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned sources) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased energy), Scope 3 emissions often represent the largest share of a company’s total carbon footprint.
By joining the “Make it Zero” initiative and actively participating, we strengthen our commitment to collaborating with our business partners to promote sustainable progress.
