A 41-Year Journey at Bolton Adhesives
Ronald de Jonge’s remarkable 41-year journey with Bolton Adhesives began in July 1984 as a flex worker at what was then Perfecta Chemie. From those first days on the shop floor to his current role as Logistics Manager in Goes, he has embodied the spirit of continuous growth, collaboration, and innovation. Along the way, Ronald has led teams in production, overseen major site consolidations, and championed lean practices, always with an eye toward developing talent and fostering belonging.
His story is one of perseverance, learning, and the power of togetherness that fuels Bolton’s promise of growth for every colleague.
Reflecting on your journey from flex worker to Logistics Manager, what has been the most rewarding part of your career, and how has Bolton’s culture of togetherness supported you?
“The most rewarding aspect has been growing alongside incredible people,” Ronald says warmly. “From the moment I joined, we were more than co-workers, we were a dedicated team sharing a common purpose. That sense of unity has fueled creativity, lifted heavy workloads, and created an atmosphere where everyone’s strengths shine. It’s this togetherness that’s allowed me, and so many others to reach milestones we never imagined.”
Your path spans roles in operations, production, and now logistics. Which moments or decisions stand out as turning points in your personal and professional development?
“Honestly, there wasn’t a single lightning-bolt moment,” he reflects. “Rather, it was a steady commitment to hard work, a curiosity to learn, and the courage to seize new opportunities. I owe a lot to leaders who believed in me and gave me room to grow, sometimes you need a bit of luck, too. But above all, staying open to change and embracing each challenge has shaped who I am today.”
You’ve led significant initiatives, from reorganizing production to merging factories. Can you share how these experiences drove change and growth at Bolton?
“One highlight was merging three mixing departments into one and doing the same for filling, this reorganization boosted efficiency and flexibility in an even better way than we had expected” Ronald recalls.
“Later, closing our Mierlo site and integrating it into Goes tested every skill, from social planning to process harmonization. Guiding teams through those transitions underscored the importance of clear communication and collective ownership—pillars of Bolton’s growth mindset.”
Having completed leadership and lean manufacturing programs, how has your approach to leading teams evolved, and what advice would you offer aspiring leaders here?
“My style now balances celebration with constructive critique,” he explains. “Always recognize wins, but keep a curious, critical eye on where we can do better. Be honest, communicate openly, and never promise what you can’t deliver. Most importantly, involve your colleagues, they’ll champion change when they feel heard and valued.”
After four decades with Bolton, what keeps you motivated, and what excites you most about our future—especially in terms of personal and organizational growth?
“Even after 41 years, there’s something new to learn every day,” Ronald enthuses. “Working toward shared goals alongside talented teammates never gets old. Looking ahead, I’m thrilled by Bolton’s commitment to nurturing high-potential colleagues—giving them the tools and opportunities to advance. That promise of growth, at every level, is what makes our journey so meaningful.”
