We Aim for Long-Term Partnerships
We collaborate with trade associations, international organisations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to strengthen our expertise, exchange knowledge, and contribute to sector-wide initiatives on sustainability and responsible business conduct.
Oxfam
In 2020, we partnered with Oxfam to strengthen our social sustainability strategy and enhance our ability to identify, prevent, mitigate and address actual and potential adverse human rights impacts connected to our operations and value chain. This collaboration aimed to reinforce our Human Rights Policy and Due Diligence approach, particularly focusing on our tuna supply chain, which was identified as the highest-risk area within our company.
WWF
We've been working with WWF on the responsible management of marine resources since 2017. As part of this partnership, Bolton adheres to WWF's tuna sourcing strategy and is working to improve the environmental standards of its seafood supply chain.
Joint initiatives undertaken through this collaboration include supply chain certification programmes, advocacy for improved fisheries management in key fishing areas, marine ecosystem conservation projects, and consumer awareness campaigns on responsible fishing practices.
UN Global Compact
We actively support the United Nations Global Compact in Italy, Spain, the USA, and Ecuador, engaging in initiatives such as position papers and knowledge-sharing efforts. Our focus includes critical areas like supply chain due diligence, human rights protection, and ocean stewardship, contributing to global discussions and actions on these pressing issues.
Bolton further strengthened this commitment in 2025 by becoming a founding member of the UN Global Compact Network Italy.
Specific Partnerships
for Our Fishing Category
International Pole and Line Foundation
The International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF) promotes one-by-one fishing methods and supports the development of science-based management practices in small-scale and artisanal tuna fisheries. Bolton's membership of IPNLF contributes to initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods and working conditions of small-scale fishing communities.
Global Ghost Gear Initiative
According to industry estimates, at least 640,000 tonnes of fishing gear are lost or abandoned in the world's oceans every year. The Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI) is a multi-stakeholder programme that aims to reduce the amount of lost, abandoned or discarded fishing gear — a significant source of marine debris — by developing and applying a Best Practice Framework, as well as carrying out related field projects.
Bermeo Tuna World Capital
This public-private alliance brings together stakeholders across the tuna supply chain — including fishing operators, NGOs, and government agencies — with the objective of promoting science-based tuna fisheries management practices.
Seafood Task Force
This industry-led initiative combats illegal and unregulated fishing. The organisation's membership includes some of the world’s largest tuna suppliers, brands, and retailers. Bolton is an active member of this organisation and contributes to its working groups and initiatives.
ISSF
Bolton is a founding member of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF), a non-profit organisation that unites companies in the fishing and canning industries with scientists and environmental NGOs. The ISSF develops and promotes science-based measures for the conservation and responsible management of tuna stocks worldwide.
Global Tuna Alliance
We are part of the Global Tuna Alliance, an independent group of retailers and supply chain companies, working to ensure that tuna ultimately meets the highest standards of environmental performance and social responsibility.
AZTI
We are a partner of AZTI, a scientific and technological centre that develops cutting-edge products. Together we’ve developed innovative techniques that prevent the accidental capture of vulnerable species, such as small sharks and turtles.
NAPA
We’re part of the North Atlantic Pelagic Advocacy Group (NAPA), a coalition of more than 50 retailers, food service companies and suppliers aimed at improving North Atlantic pelagic fisheries management.
Specific Partnerships
for Our Beauty, Home and Personal Care Categories
AISE
Bolton has joined the A.I.S.E. initiative, which aims to increase the use of recycled plastic in packaging across the home care sector. As a member, Bolton supports the initiative's targets for the adoption of recycled plastic, in line with A.I.S.E.'s objectives for the industry.
Cosmetics Europe
Bolton, along with its Personal Care and Beauty brands, has joined 'CommitForOurPlanet,' an initiative by Cosmetics Europe aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of the cosmetics sector through collective action across the entire value chain.
Packaging Ethical Charter Foundation
In 2023, we became ambassadors of the Packaging Ethical Charter Foundation (Fondazione Carta Etica del Packaging). This foundation promotes a set of shared values within the packaging supply chain, aligning our development activities with the principles of the Ethical Packaging Charter, particularly focusing on safety, transparency, and sustainability.
