The Bolton Food Research & Innovation Center is a non-profit, permanent scientific hub established to support research and knowledge development in the seafood industry. Its activities aim to contribute to a broader understanding of sustainability-related challenges, with the ultimate goal of driving change in the seafood industry.
The Center reinforces Bolton leadership in the seafood industry, by strengthening our ability to understand, optimize, and continuously improve how seafood is produced and consumed, we aim to create value across the entire value chain, supporting people’s health, and contributing to more resilient food systems.
Turning Research into Solutions
The Center focuses on deepening the scientific understanding of the impacts generated by seafood products on both people and the planet, having as a goal to translate that knowledge into tangible solutions that optimise resources, reduce waste, and support more resilient food systems.
Initially, the Center’s research activities focus on the following areas:
FISH-VALUE VALORIZATION
Research activities aimed to explore ways to improve yield efficiency and assess the potential of by-products and fish waste to be used into high-value derivatives.
SEAFOOD CONSUMPTION AND HUMAN HEALTH
Advance scientific evidence on the role of seafood in sustainable nutrition, health maintenance, and balanced diets, with a special focus on vulnerable populations.
Open, Science-Based Innovation in Singapore
The Center operates through collaboration with universities and research institutions, supporting open and science-based innovation in the seafood sector.
These partnerships are intended to contribute to ongoing research on topics such as nutrition, resource use, and marine ecosystems.
The Center's location is strategic to leverage Singapore's position as a global innovation hub that offers advanced R&D infrastructure, strong institutional support, and access to a highly skilled talent pool.
