How We Are Driving Decarbonization at Our Goes Plant
Sustainability is more than a buzzword; it's a responsibility that each of us carries for the future of our planet. As part of Bolton, we recognize the importance to contribute to tackling global warming. This commitment is not just about reducing our carbon footprint, it’s about being part of a larger movement toward a sustainable future.
As part of our ongoing sustainability journey, we are committed to reducing CO2 emissions of our production sites. An important step in this transformation began at our production site in Goes, Netherlands. Starting in 2024, we embarked on an ambitious masterplan to modernize the entire site. The project kicked off with significant upgrades to our office building: we insulated the roof, renewed boilers, installed a heat pump with heat recovery, and added the first solar panels on the roof. The results speak for themselves: a 65% reduction in electricity and gas consumption, and a 65% reduction in CO2 emissions from our office building.
“Our efforts aren't just about reducing our emissions, they’re about having an impact and creating a better future for both people and the planet. It’s incredible to see how all little steps can accumulate to a significant change, and we are proud to be part of that change," says Indre Thiel, Sustainable Development Director UHU, Bolton Adhesives
Looking ahead to 2025, our focus will shift to one of the filling departments, where we plan to install a new rooftop with enhanced insulation, as well as a new ventilation and heat recovery system. These upgrades will not only improve energy efficiency but also contribute to a reduction in overall CO2 emissions. We also plan to install additional solar panels to increase our self-sufficiency in energy production. By focusing on modernizing our operations and committing to meaningful emission reductions, we are not just reducing our environmental impact—we are building a better, more sustainable future for the people we serve and for generations to come.
